Guidelines: land evaluation for extensive grazing

This publication outlines the principles of land evaluation and detail specificaly the procedures applied for extensive grazing. The steps presented put emphasis on the planning stage and the land evaluation objectives, the studies of land utilization types and land units, then the comparison of land use with land matching environmental assessment and socio-economical analysis. It refers to livestock productivity and population supporting capacity criteria. The final suitability classification of each land unit for each alternative land use has first to be regarded according to the potential land users objectives. The presentation of the results is an important step : the land evaluation is to be understood by the different interested parties to ensure the successful application of the recommended land uses
