The foot-and-mouth disease program in Uruguay

Due to the implication that FMD has in the productive, commercial and political aspects, it has been a constant concern of the Governments, productive and agro-industrial sectors. The negative impact of this disease on livestock activity is recognized, making it undoubtedly one of the most important transmissible diseases of livestock and one of those that causes the greatest restrictions on the trade of animals and products of animal origin; especially meat and dairy.
