EVALUATION OF RESISTANCE TO ACARICIDES OF RHIPICEPHALUS (BOOPHILUS) MICROPLUS COLLECTED FROM GRAZING CATTLE ON FARMS LOCATED IN DARIÉN

The resistance of ticks to acaricides represents a significant challenge in the livestock industry of the tropical region of Darién, Panama. This study investigated the resistance of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus to the acaricides used in grazing cattle. The effects of inadequate use and lack of rotation of acaricides on the observed resistance are highlighted. Using laboratory evaluations, high tick resistance to acaricides was identified in the Darién region, highlighting the importance of comprehensive strategies to manage this resistance effectively. Further research is recommended to understand the underlying mechanisms better and assess resistance to other acaricides in this tick population, which is crucial for developing effective and sustainable control measures.
