Use of sig in the environmental zoning of the clay quarries in the village of Pueblillo, municipality of Popayán-Cauca

Forest fragmentation and its associated potential loss of habitat quality is one of the main causes of biodiversity decline. One of the strategies to know the conditions of the habitats is environmental zoning. This considers the landscape as an integrated space-time entity and contributes to presenting the dynamics of ecological processes and their functioning. In this research, an environmental zoning proposal was developed for the area of influence of the clay mines in the village of Pueblillo-Popayán, using geographic information system tools, in a selected area that has 110,5 Ha. Eight final maps were obtained that show the landscape units, vegetation cover, current land use, soil suitability, land use conflict, possible ecological corridors and finally environmental zoning. According to the national methodology, the following zones were selected: zone (z) of special environmental significance (29,9 ha), z. of environmental recovery (29,1 ha), z. of risk and threats (2,1 ha), z. of economic production (28,9 ha) and z. of social importance (20,6 ha). Considering the processes of fragmentation of the vegetation covers and the ecological connectivity of the study area, various guidelines were established for the organization and management of this area in accordance with Decree 1729 of 2002. This included recovery and restoration programs, protection of areas for conservation purposes, sustainable production, and environmental education programs. Finally, a sheet was created establishing the priority, duration, activities, indicators, goals and objectives expected to be met with the project, as well as the costs and possible responsible entities.
