Leaf and stem morphoanatomy of Sisymbrium officinale (Brassicaceae)

Ruiz, Ana Inés; María Inés Mercado; María R. Figueroa Romero†; Nora Muruaga and Graciela I. Ponessa. 2008. “Leaf and stem morphoanatomy of Sisymbrium officinale (Brassicaceae)”. Lilloa 45 (1-2). S. officinale (L.) Scop. (Brassicaceae) commonly known as “Jaramago”, “singer’s herb” or “Erisimo” used in folk medicine. Presents petiolate leaves, lower leaves runcinate-pinnatisect or lyrate and upper leaves hastate with linear segments. The objectives of the present work are to characterize morphological and anatomical stem and leaves of S. officinale, to establish diagnostic parameters that allow a standardized drug for identification and to develop a dichotomyc key to differentiate S. officinale from S. irio, only species cited for Tucumán. Epidermal idioblastic cells and palisade tissue, anisocytic and anomocytic twns stomata with a cuticular border like T piece and non glandular ornamented trichomes, sometimes on a multistratified cushion, together constitute elements of diagnostic value for identifying the same foliar. The caulinar diagnostic character in dissociated tissue were epidermal idioblastic cells, retrorse ornamented nonglandular trichome on a pluricellular cushion of cells and sclereids.
