YIELD AND CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT PLANTING PATTERNS OF PASTURE Pennisetum purpureum CV. ELEFANTE CARAJÁS
In Panama, the only cut grass introduced with gamic seed is the elephant grass Pennisetum purpureum cv Elefante Carajás. Due to the lack of local information on the grass Pennisetum purpureum cv. Elefante Carajás, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different planting patterns and germination percentage on production and nutritional quality with gamic seed of elephant grass. In each of the sections of the plant material samples were taken for treatment, separately analyzing the samples and dry matter yield (kg / ha), crude protein (%), crude fiber (%) was determined by the% was also evaluated seed germination field at 4, 8, 12 and 16 days after planting. The dry matter yield increased with plant spacing and plant age, reaching its highest value at 0.80 x 0.80 cm and acceptable values for this genus Pennisetum. The crude protein decreased with cutoff frequencies reflecting the percentage over the highest percentages in the winter. Germination under field conditions was early increasing to achieve excellent rate for a grass of the genus Pennisetum.
