Brain electrical activity: recording and analysis methods and its implications in the brain´s functional organization : Brain electrical activity: recording and analysis methods and its implications in the brain´s functional organization

The electroencephalogram (EEG) is a non-invasive technique that allows the evaluation of brain electrical activity. It has been advantageous over the years to assess the brain´s functional organization in healthy populations and those with various pathologies. This review aims to provide a general overview of the EEG, including the neurophysiological origin of brain electrical activity, the component frequency bands, and the analysis methods commonly applied in research. There is still a lot to know about the meaning of the changes generated in the different brain rhythms related to age during information processing, as well as their alterations in specific pathologies.
