TOMATOES: PRODUCTION AND TRADE IN CHAPECÓ, SANTA CATARINA

The objective of this paper is to verify the possibilities to increase tomatoes production in Chapecó, SC, where the product represents from 10 to 13 percent of the basic food basket cost. The methodology used was the estimation of the distribution margin and productive chain sequence. The data were obtained from several segments of the productive chain. It was verified that new technologies are available, but the investiments must be improved. The tomatoes production appears as lucrative, mainly to retailers.
