Primitae Mastozoologicae Colombianae - I. Status taxonómico de Sciurus Pucheranii Santanderensis

The pygmy squirrel originally named Sciurus pucheranii santanderensis (Meseta de Los Caballeros, San Vicente de Chucurí, Santander, Colombia) is shown to be a member of the genus Microsciurus. M. santanderensis redescribed and some comments concerning the variations and systematics of the genus are appended It is thought that only two or three polytypic species exist in this genus, all other nominal «species» being no more than subspecies. Provisionally it is accorded specific rank for santanderensis.
