Influence of shading and nutrition on the development, yield and quality of the fruit of five varieties of table tomato in a protected environment: Shading and tomato nutrition
Table tomatoes are economically important to the Dominican Republic and growing them in greenhouses requires technological adjustments. The objective was to evaluate influence of shade and nutrition on development, yield, fruit quality and income. The sub-subdivided plots design, three replications, 45 treatments (five varieties, three shade levels and three fertilization programs), and analysis of variance and comparison by Duncan at 5% (InfoStat, 2018) were used. The height / plants, due to the combined effect variety-shade (S) -fertilization (F), was higher for variety Anairis with 159.17 cm (S60% + F3) and lower in Bermello with 104.11 cm (S60% + F1). For bunches / plant, Tremendity produced more with 5.58 (S0% + F3) and Bermello less (3.56) low (S60% + F3), Anairis 4.99 fruits / bunch (S30% + F2) and Bermello 2.51 (S0% + F3). Tremedity presented lower weight / fruit with 137.86 g (S0%) and higher with 203.09 g (S30%). Doterang lower yield with 14.82 t ha-1 (S0%) and higher Anairis (44.83 t ha-1) under S30%. Lower quality of fruits with diameter 6.21 cm and length 6.32 cm, produced Doterang (S0%). Larger diameter (6.77 cm) produced Anairis (S0%), and Tremendity the greatest length 6.77 cm. Doterang produced lower Brix degrees with 2.88% and Anairis 4.32%. Higher income (DOP $ 5,131,593.88) contributed (Belfast + S30% + F2). It was concluded that the shade influenced the development of plants, yield and quality of fruits, with an effect on temperature and luminosity that favored the other varieties, for better adaptability and productivity than Doterang.
