GM 07. Five hundred forty days weight breeding values estimated by means of animal model procedure

Animal model methodology was used to evaluate the adjusted to 540 days weight (W540) of 56 Brahman steers and heifers, borned in 1995 at “Santa Rosa” Seedstock Center, located in a humid tropical area. The fixed effets, breeding values (BV) and its standard error of prediction (SEP) were estimated using a Mixed Animal Model, considering additive genetic relationships as random effect; sex and adjusted to 205 days weight (W205) as fixed effects. The model has a R-squared equal to 0.8361. A value to mean W540 of 312.26 kg, males were 51.73 kg more weighted than females, and 1.25 kg of increment in W540 per kg of weight over mean W205.
