Sport als middel om sociale kwetsbaarheid te verkleinen: waar zit de kracht?
Sport can serve as a means of reducing social vulnerability. A common rationale is that skills are learned in a sports setting that can then be used outside the sports context. Skills are therefore often at the core of research on the societal impact of sport. The question is whether a narrow focus on skills is justified. According to less instrumental views of personal development, emotion plays an essential role in personal growth. Additionally, theory on existential learning and salutogenesis emphasize the importance of non-instrumental learning experiences for personal development. This calls for more attention to these processes in sport-as-a-means research.
