Diergezondheid biologische houderij versus gangbare houderij : varkenshouderij, melkveehouderij

Based on literature, the health status of pigs and dairy cows in organic and conventional housing are compared. The advantages of organic pig farming are a better welfare and less leg disorders. Disadvantages are a higher mortality rate for piglets, more lung disorders and a higher incidence of parasitic infections. The advantages of organic dairy farming are less leg disorders, a lower incidence of milk fever and ketosis and a better fertility. Disadvantages are a lower milk yield, a higher somatic cell count and a higher prevalence of mastitis.
