Country paper: Australia

Country report from Australia for the Symposium on Problems of Transition from Technical and Vocational Schools to Work. Over the past five years, the major initiatives in transition policies have been link courses between secondary schools and further education institutions, and work experience programmes. The Technical and Further Education Council reviews every three years the developments of technical and further education and recommends future priorities and funding levels. Many secondary schools have full-time careers guidance teachers, and most others nominate a teacher to act as a careers guidance officer on a part-time basis. Transition problems vary in degree among states, but an example of a discussion paper on curriculum planning for transition is attached as an appendix.
