Speech briefly recalling that the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, by placing special emphasis on the spiritual and ethical aspects of research, has added a very welcome complementary dimension to its specifically scientific mission and has established for itself a leading place in the scientific world, constituting a unique forum for international co-operation, a privileged setting in which men and women working at the forefront of present-day scientific research can reflect together on the ultimate goals of their research and draw attention to its moral implications
