ECA ongoing activities in the sudan-Sahelian zone
ECA ongoing activities in the Sudan-Sahelian zone was realized by the Commission in 1962 that if its work in the interest of groups of countries was to be effective, its activities had to be decentralized. The first attempt at decentralization was made in the West African sub region. One of the first projects undertaken on behalf of the West African sub region was a study of the nature and scope of socio-economic problems encountered in the development and improvement of rural life and institutions. The report dealt with such topics as agriculture and livestock production; forest and fisheries; expansion of community development services; nutrition; mobilization of youth; training and education for co-operative organizations; land use and land capability surveys. Three reports have been prepared on transport, improvement of agriculture and animal husbandry, and prospects for mineral exploration and exploitation.
