The national council for geographic information (CNIG)
CNIG is a consultative authority to the French Ministry of Equipment whose aim is to co-ordinate various producers' activities, have them concert with users and so develop geographic information within public and private sectors. It regroups producers1»main user-ministries' and local authorities' representatives. All problems related to geo localized data collection, processing and distribution and all relevant technologies fall within its scope. It is structured into specialized commissions and working groups including particularly the National Commission for Toponymy.
