Report of the Working Group on Methodology, Organization and Content of Household Surveys

The principal purpose of the meeting was to formulate a programme to assist African countries in developing continuous household survey capabilities, for which there was a clear and acknowledged need. Among the major gaps in the statistics of the region vas lack of information on household’s and. the Conference of African Statisticians had repeatedly requested assistance in survey organization. In addition, both the International and the African Strategies for the Second United Nations Development Decade involved a unified approach to economic and social development in which the raising of human wellbeing was a basic objective, thus pointing to the need for comprehensive and continuing information on households.
