An evaluation of the utility of NOAA AVHRR images for monitoring forest fire risk in Spain

The principal objective of this study is the evaluation of the potentiality of the low spatial resolution and high temporal resolution images, such as the images scanned by the AVHRR sensor of the NOAA-9 satellite. These images are used for detection of forest fire in areas prone to be affected and for determining physiological conditions of vegetation cover during the year, in order that we can ascertain the conditions under which such cover is most susceptible to fire. © 1991 Taylor & Francis Ltd.
