Fishery institutions and development in the Yemen Arab Republic

This report reviews the fisheries situation in the Yemen Arab Republic and examines the institutions directly or indirectly concerned with the fishery sector. It discusses the main development possibilities and the support that will be required from the various institutions if satisfactory progress is to be made. Recommendations are made regarding the strengthening of the Department of Fisheries to enable it to fulfil its general responsibilities for overall development and management. It is als o recommended that the activities of the General Corporation for the Development of Fishery Resources be divided into those which relate to the provision of services to the industry and those which are of a commercial nature. Technical assistance requirements are discussed, as well as the need for closer liaison between the various bodies concerned with the fishery sector.
