Damage distribution and yield losses caused by the stem borer Diatraea saccharalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) in Northwestern Argentina
The stem borer, Diatraea saccharalis, is the most important sugarcane pest in Argentina. The objective of this work was to analyze the damage distribution and sugar losses caused by D. saccharalis across 2016–2020 seasons in the Northwest region of Argentina. The average damage level in the seasons studied was 5.97% in Tucumán province and 5.06% in Jujuy province, with total sugar losses of 58.105 tons and 9.869 tons, respectively. Infestation maps were made in the studied provinces using Geographic Information Systems helping us to implement appropriate control strategies against this pest.
