Concentraciones de carbono y nitrogeno en el suelo bajo Erythrina poeppigiana en plantaciones organicas y convencionales de café
The impact of the shade tree Erythrina poeppigiana on soil total C and N concentrations, at three different positions relative to the tree, and for three different soil depths, was compared using six pairs of farms (organic and conventional) with similar management and environmental conditions for each pair. C and N concentrations within the 0-5 cm layer were similar for all positions in the organic system, but in the conventional system higher C and N concentrations were found close to the shade tree vs. the positions 2 in from the trunk (5.04 vs. 4.03% for C and 0.44 vs. 0.35% for N). The average soil C and N concentrations in organic farms were higher than conventional farms (5.06 vs. 4.35%; 0.42 vs. 0.37%, respectively).
