Support mission to the Coconut Agronomy & Farming System section at the Cocoa & Coconut Research Institute, Papua New Guinea Stewart Research Station, Madang, 4-12/12/2001
Under 2001 programming by the French Embassy in Port Moresby, a multidisciplinary mission involving an entomologist, Dr L. Ollivier and an agronomist, Mr J. Ollivier from the CIRAD-CP Coconut Programme, was undertaken from 4th to 12th December 2001 at the Stewart Research Station belonging to the Papua New Guinea Cocoa and Coconut Research Institute in Madang province. For agronomy aspects, the aim was to provide support for coconut agronomy and farming system activities being implemented at the Stewart station, following the departure of the last CIRAD researcher in July 2001. This support mission was intended to take stock of further scientific collaboration between CCRI and CIRAD in connection with these two areas of research. Despite major budgetary constraints, the research programme of the coconut agronomy and farming system section was satisfactorily maintained in 2001. W. Akus, Head of the CAFS section, expressed his wish for collaboration with CIRAD to continue in the form of regular, short support missions. This solution would make it possible to continue supporting the section in its management and processing of experimental data from the trials, discuss the results obtained, and further observations, assist in presenting the results obtained, and lastly to determine together future research activities.
