Computerizing the rootstock database

The obtention of a citrus database is one of he work's purposes in our Institute of Agronomical Researchers (SRA). This database would he useful for the genetic evaluations of our citrus genetic germplasm and so, to define the easier way for the genetic resource conservation. We have also developed a software for the management of data on citrus varieties and rootstocks, named EGID (for Evaluation and management data processing of genetic diversity). The data base package is organized under Windows, concerning several kinds of variety's descriptions (history, parentage, taxonomy, pomology...) and also for the varieties used as rootstock, numerous information about their sensitivity to pathogens, their susceptibility to the climate or the soil compound, their influence on the fruit quality and other traits... EDID is characterized by:- the ability to obtained data in different languages, - several users can be connected in a network environment, - the software can be manage several sites - PC/Windows compatibility, - it is an evolutive system (it would be able to integrate additional descriptions like biochemical or molecular observations). In the near future, we expect to develop a building expert system for choosing the appropriate rootstock for a particular biotic and abiotic environment.
