Registration of 16 maizestreak resistant tropical maize parental inbred lines

Tzi (tropical Zea inbred) lines 1, 3, 4, 8 to 13, 15, 17, 18, 24, 25, 27, 28 and 30 are currently at the S6 stage of inbreeding; they have been selected for resistance to maize streak virus (MSV) throughout the inbreeding process using artificial field infestation with viruliferous leafhoppers. MSV resistance was derived from the resistant populations TZSR-W and TZSR-Y. Most of the inbreds have resistance to some of the other major tropical diseases. Data are tabulated on parentage, grain yield and agronomic traits, and resistance to Puccinia polysora, Helminthosporium maydis [Cochliobolus heterostrophus], Curvularia leaf spot, Fusarium moniliforme [Gibberella fujikuroi] and the parasitic weed Striga hermonthica.
