Dairy sector: agricultural prospects update

The market balance in the dairy sector is 'expected to improve over the medium term, with increasing cheese production and consumption' and, at the same time, lower availability of butter and skimmed milk powder. By 2006 exports of skimmed milk powder are expected to be less than half of the level attained in 2000 (155,000 tonnes instead of 358,000 tonnes).
