Using the Baltic sprat abundance estimates for Subdivisions 26 and 28 obtained by trawling and hydro-acoustic surveys in the years 1981-1985, total annual mortalities have been defined. These have been divided into fishery mortality and natural mortality components due to predation and other factors. Variations in the mentioned quantities have been traced.
