Etudes séismiques par réfraction au large du bassin de la Medjerda.
A series of seismic refrection studies were made off the basin of the Medjerda river in order to define precisely its deep geological features. These seismic refraction measurements pointed out the presence of three layers(unconsolidated, semi-consolidated) with, respectively, the velocities of 1730 m/s, 3580 m/s and 4850 m/s. Considering the geological studies made in the region of Tunis, we may state that the first formation corresponds to the Upper Tertiary, Quaternary and recent deposits, the second one to the Eocene-Jurassic complex and the third one to the Keuper evaporites. These studies principally made evident the littoral type of the terrestrial deposits of the Medjerda river from the Pliocene till nowadays and the importance of the gypseous formations constituting a plastic basis on which were deposited the sediments of the basin.
