Efecto de la predación de Noctiluca scintillans Macartney, Sagitta friderici Ritter-Záhony y larvas de Engraulis anchoita Hubbs-Marini sobre la comunidad planctónica costera bonaerense

Studied the effect of the predation of Noctiluca scintillans, Sagitta friderici and larvae of Engraulis anchoita in planktonic community of the coastal waters off Buenos Aires province from samples obtained of a permanent station EPEA (38°28’ S, 57°41’ W, 48 m depth) from March 2000 through April 2001. The composition of the diet of the three species predators considering appearances quantitative and qualitative was determined. It found that N. scintillans consumed mainly diatoms and copepod eggs. The alimentary index varied between 27.50% and 77.00%. The highest value corresponded to September, 2000. The analyses of the diets of S. friderici and of the larvae of E. anchoita indicated that both consume mainly different stages of development of the same species of copepods. The alimentary indexes for S. friderici changed between 7.00 % and 35.00 % with no clear seasonal pattern. In regard to the larvae of E. anchoita these indexes varied between 1.69% and 40.48%. The main values obtained in the months of spring. Observed positive relations between the size of the predator and of the preys, indicating in all the cases that to measure that of the body length predator increase, consumes preys increasingly big. The three species analysed, consumed mainly different stages of development of copepods. The populations of copepods of the coastal waters off Buenos Aires province could see affected by the predation regarding his abundance, basically the species such as Oithona nana, Ctenocalanus vanus and Calanoides carinatus.
