The Ocean Data and Information Network for the Caribbean and South America Regions (ODINCARSA): Report 2001-2003

Activities of ODINCARSA project began with the First Planning workshop held in Guayaquil, Ecuador between 24-26 October 2001, hosted by the Oceanographic Institute of the Navy (INOCAR), with participants attending the meeting from fourteen countries in the Caribbean and South America regions. The meeting reviewed the ocean data and information management capacity available in the regions, identified capacity building requirements and developed a comprehensive work plan to develop a regional cooperative network for the management and exchange of oceanographic data and information in the regions.(Report available as IOC Workshop Report No. 177) During the First Planning Workshop Mr Rodney Martínez Gûingla (Ecuador) was nominated by the participants in that workshop as Regional Coordinator for the ODINCARSA Project, coordinating both the data and information management areas. During the First Training Course on Marine Information Management, the region decided to nominate in addition Mrs. Donna Spencer (Trinidad & Tobago) as MIM Regional Sub-Coordinator for the Caribbean islands.
