Characteristics of phytoplankton of small and medium-sized rivers of Eastern Donbass in the area, affected by coal mining activity* (*Research was funded by the grant from Russian Science Foundation (Project No. 14-17-00376))

The variability of quantitative and qualitative indices of the development of phytoplankton communities in various parts of the small and medium rivers of the Eastern Donbass is considered. It is shown that the high variability of total abundance is a characteristic feature of phytoplankton development and indicates an unstable state of the community. In the phytoplankton speciescomposition, from 2 to 8 groups of phytoplankton were recorded; most often, diatom algae prevailed. Obvious anthropogenic impact on the state of the community was not detected.
