Urban Agricultural Soil Metagenome

The goal of this study is to investigate the relative abundance of antibiotic resistance genes, metal resistance genes, biocide resistance genes, and mobile genetic elements in urban agricultural soil that received no manure or wastewater treatment and their correlation patterns. The soil was collected from an urban community garden in Detroit, USA, before its growing season. Heavy metals and other soil contaminants that are associated with urban agricultural sites may shape antibiotic resistance genes composition. Thus, it is of great importance to study antibiotic resistance genes prevalence as it relates to soil contaminants.
