Monitoring of vegetation after directed fires in the savannas of the leeward coast of la Réunion, Réunion island, 2018-2021

As part of the establishment of controlled fires in the savannas of Cap La Houssaye on Réunion Island, to fight against the shrub invasion of two exotic species Leucaena leucocaphala and Vachellia farnesiana, 40 permanent plots of 2 X 50 m have been installed, named SAV1 to SAV40. A botanical inventory was carried out in these 40 plots. Monthly vegetation monitoring was carried out in 10 plots (SAV 7, 8, 9, 10, 17, 11, 12, 18, 19 and SAV 20) between 2016 and 2018 (T0: November 2016 to T18: July 2018). The impact of two prescribed fires on vegetation in November 2016 and November 2017 could be followed. The abundance, the diversity, the phenology, the height of plants, the presence of resprouts after fire were reported. In the framework of this monitoring, forage quality measurements by infrared spectrometry, seed bank germination monitoring, physico-chemistry soil analysis were also carried out. Floristic characterization and study of the structure of the vegetation in 15 plots located (at 253 m: SAV 7, 8, 9, 10, 17; at 185 m: SAV 31, 32, 33, 34, 35; at 26 m: SAV 36, 37, 38, 39, 40) along a short altitudinal gradient could be conducted. A comparative study between botanical field surveys and photogrammetry in drone imagery of this savanna vegetation was also carried out on the plots SAV 31 to SAV 35 between June and november 2020. In this archive, the data obtained and associated metadata during this project are provided.

ACKOWLEDGEMENTS This work could not have been achieved without the help on the field of local biodiversity managers Parc National de La Réunion, Conservatoire du Littoral, Cirad, Université de La Réunion, NGO, colleagues and dynamic students.
