The coffee commodity chain in Laos, and farmer strategies

This paper first examines the changes in coffee production in Laos since the 1960s onwards as well as the structure of the Laotian coffee commodity chain. It then describes the coffee production systems (short-fallow coffee-based systems and coffee-based systems without fallow) in the Bolovens plateau; the major constraints on farms; and the impact of the different projects under the coffee component of the "Projet de developpement rural du plateau des Bolovens" that was launched in late 1997.
