Crecimiento de Coffea arabica variedad Caturra Amarillo en almácigos con sustratos orgánicos en Chanchamayo, Selva Central del Perú

The effect of several organic substrates on the growth of coffee (Coffea arabica cv. Caturra Amarilla) in seedbeds was analysed. Different mixtures of poultry manure, coffee fruit pulp, organic matter and soil from primary forest were evaluated. Thebest treatments for the majority of parameters evaluated (height, stem diameter and fresh and dry weight per plant) were T2 (40 percent poultry manure+60 percent soil from primary forest), T8 (40 percent organic matter from primary forest+60 percent soil from primary forest), T9 (60 percent organic matter from primary forest+40 percent soil from primary forest) and T10 (100 percent soil from primary forest). However, the vigour index was greater with T10. The use of T2 mixture might have more advantages than T8, T9 and T10 because it provides a way to reduce environmental pollution and to prevent the removal of the organic matter and soil from tropical forests.
