Influence of pollination on fruit retention in Devamachy hybrids of coffee

Influence of the mode of pollination on fruit-set and retention in Devamachy hybrids of arabica coffee was studied. The study indicated no significant difference among the three progenies in fruit-set under either self or open pollination. While the fruit retention is favourably influenced by open pollination, this was not significantly different among the progenies. Fruit retention under self-pollination manifested a significant difference among the progenies with F2 showing superior retention. Two breeding schemes to stabilize the productivity are indicated.
