Métodos de avaliacao de progenies de Coffea arabica L., cultivar Catuaí

The results obtained in selection of cultivar Catuai (Coffea arabica) was evaluated in this study. The phenotypic yield stability and the contribution of environmental effects to the progenies x environments interaction were evaluated. The possibility to proceed with selection even when based on a small number of harvests was analysed. Green coffee yield data obtained from experiments carried out in 5 counties of south Minas Gerais, Brazil, were used. Analysed data refered to 8 sucessive harvests and analyses of variance was run for annual, total and groups of harvests. Results and conclusions can be summarized as follow. The precision of the evaluation varied greatly, improved in analyses with groups of harvest, especially biennial yields, as well as estimates of components of variance and the genotypic coeficient of determination. The environmental effect that contributed the most to cultivars x environments interaction were the years of harvest. The stability parameters estimated by the methodology of Eberhart e Russel (1966) and alternativelly by the use of progenies controls mean to measure of environmental index showed differences in some of the materials tested. The lowest yield was obtained for progenies which were not the most stable but presented positive response to environment improvement. It was observed that the anticipate selection the best progenies can be based on the data of three or four harvest, number judged convenient to select superior progenies
