Heterorhabditis sp. nematodes as control agents for coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei (Scolytidae)

Heterorhabditis sp. nematodes were added to dishes containing coffee berries infested with Hypothenemus hampei, the coffee berry borer. The nematodes caused significant mortality of both adult and larval berry borers. Nematodes were found in hosts 8 days postintroduction. Infectivity tests confirmed Koch's postulate with nematodes recovered from adult coffee berry borers. The nematodes completed their life cycles more often in adult coffee berry borers than in the larval stages.
