Machinery used in establishing and reclaiming coffee plantations
The spreading of coffee plantations started in Vietnam after the unification of the country. Coffee is one of the export commodities for which machinery and equipment are bought. East European countries co-operate with Vietnam in developing the coffee plantations. The uncultivated forest stands in the Gia Lai Kontum, Nghe Tinh and other regions change into the plantations. Poor quality forests, bush and savanna areas are all reclaimed and coffee trees are planted. After planting coffee-trees in the planned area of reclaimed land, old coffee plantations will have to be renewed. To reclaim 500 ha of lad for the new plantations and to renew another 500 ha of the old plantations, a farm will need four 150 kW tractors and four 60 kW tractors. Further, the farm will have to buy ten five - to six - share ploughs, four combinations, five drills, four heavy single-body hillers and sixteen tractor trailers
