Coffee information systems and services

Current trends in the development of formal information systems are reviewed, with emphasis on the use online retrieval from publicly available computerised databases. Information on coffee comprises a range of scientific and social disciplines which affect the nature of services designed to provide an effective information resource. As regards scientific literature the International Coffee Organization's COFFEELINE database is reviewed with respect to access, content, sources, coverage and structure. Finally new technical and other developments in information systems are discussed, such as the use of optical media, electronic mail, desk-top publishing, expert systems and co-operative ventures between database suppliers and database hosts
