Some metabolic changes in coffee seedlings due to Rhizoctonia solani infection
Metabolic changes brough about by R. solani infection in coffee seedlings were studied with reference to reducing sugars, starch, amino acids and nucleic acids. Reducing sugars and starch contents decreased due to infection. Healthy tissues had a tendency to accumulate more and more of starch at later stages. Physiology of coffee seedlings infected by R. solani is altered with regard to free and bound amino acids. The presence of threonine and alanine as free amino acids only in the diseased tissue of coffee seedlings indicate that these are from the pathogen. The total nucleic acid content decreased after six days of infection. (ICO. Library Monthly Entries no. 80:15. 1987)
