Cultivation of mosthly high quality arabica coffee provides Burundi with 85 of its exchange earnings. The aim is to produce 40.000 t. by 1987. The 3 ecological zones (good, average and marginal for coffee production) are described and research programmes pertaining to varieties, cultural, practices, fertilizing, pest control and extension are outlined.
