Field efficacy of reduced rates of various 50 copper formulations against coffee berry disease in Kenya

During the 1980 and 1981 seasons and under high Coffee Berry Disease epidemics 50 copper formulations of Perenox, Copper Sandoz MZ, Copper Nordox, Kocide 101 and Cobox applied at 4 week intervals, were effective against CBD at reduced application rates of 0.7. Procida Bordeaux mixture applied at 4 week intervals at 1.0 also controlled CBD effectively. Plots treated with the reduced rates (7.7 kg/ha) of application of Perenox, Copper Sandoz MZ, Copper Nordox, Kocide 101 and Cobox gave yields as high as the plots treated with the previously recommended full rate of 11.0 kg/ha of the same product or the standard product Captafol 80 WP (Chevron). Plots treated with Procida Bordeaux mixture (1.0) also gave yields as high as the standard product Captafol 80 WP. Therefore, it is recommended to use 7.7 kg/ha of Perenox, Copper Sandoz MZ, Copper Nordox, Kocide 101, Cobox and 11.0 kg/ha of Procida Bordeaux mixture to control CBD in Kenya. The copper based products are also cheaper than the organic fungicides recommended for controlling CBD in Kenya. The spray intervals for various 50 Copper formulations and Procida Bordeaux mixture can be increased from 3 to 4 weeks for controlling CBD
