Effectiveness of recommended fungicides in controlling coffee berry disease
In 1977, captafol (Ortho-difolatan), chlorothalonil formulations (Daconil and Bravo 6F), dithianon (Delan), benomyl Benlate, carbendazim formulations (Derosal and Bavistin). Delan/Derosal and Delan/Benlate mixtures were evaluated against CBD at Yara Estate, Upper Kiambu. Bravo 6F, Deconil, captafol and Delan gave good disease control. Benlate, Derosal and Bavistin performed poorly; the poor performance of these products was attributed to the development of strains of the CBD fungus reistant to these fungicides. Tank mixes of Delan/Derosal (referred to as Derosal Super) and Delan/Benlate gave adequate disease control and resistant strains against benximidazole products did not become a major problem usually associated with the repeated use of Benlate, Derosal and Bavistin
