Thiophanate-methyl-a promising fungicide for the control of collar-rot of coffee

Thiophanate-methyl (TPM) was screened against Rhizoctonia solani, the incitant of collar-rot of coffee seedlings under laboratory, greenhouse and field conditions. In the laboratory using poisoned food technique, the fungicide was very effective in inhibiting the fungal mycelium. In the greenhouse TPM as seed dressing, foilage treatment and soil treatment was very effective in controlling the disease. Under field condition the fungicide when used as seed dressing chemical at 0.2 there was more than 90 reduction in the disease incidence. Treated seeds showed high percentage of germination and there was no phytotoxic symptom at any growth stage of the seedlings
