Studies on Eupterote canaraica attacking coffee

Life history and bionomics of the hairy caterpillar, Eupterote canaraica Moore (Lepidoptera, Eupterotidae), have been studied. The colour phases of caterpillars are a genetical character. Adults are attracted to ordinary electric light and petromax, but not to coloured lights. They are not attracted to chemicals like Trichloro ethylene, Furfural, etc. Metacid 50 EC, Dipterex 95 SP and Metacid combi 40 EC at 0.05 a.i. in the laboratory and Thiodan 35 EC and Dipterex 95 SP at 0.15 a.i. (using low volume sprayer) in the field gave effective control of the caterpillar
