Chemical weed control in Kenya coffee

From May 1977 to November 1977 a herbicide trial was carried out at Coffee Research Station Ruiru, Kenya to evaluate the performance of three contact herbicides and two soil-acting herbicides. WL 63611 20 EC used as a contact herbicide proved to be effective and the most persistent. WL 63611 40 SC although effective was not as persistent as the first one. Of the soil-acting herbicides, only EL 171 50 showed any signs warranting future consideration at the rates tried. Devrinol if tried in future should be applied at a higher dosage than originally tested. Dirimal should not under go any further trial. The practical implications of this trial has been discussed
