Desenvolvimento de um secador para cacau e outros produtos tropicais

The Cepec platform drier was designed to make artificial drying more economical and efficient and, at the same time, to meet the drying needs of black pepper, guaraná and other crops, which have increased in the cacao region of Bahia, Brazil. The Cepec platform drier presents the following average performance data: initial load of 3,682 kg (205 kg.m exponent -2) recently fermented cacao resulting in 1,980 kg (110 kg.m exponent -2) of dried cacao; drying time of 51.7 hours; general efficiency of 17.7 percent to reduce the moisture content from 50 percent to 7 percent w.b.; 30 kg h exponent -1 of wood load in the furnace; and 0.95 percent breakage of beans in the final weight. The maximum variation of temperature and moisture content in the platform was only 1.4 grade centigrade and 1.8 percent w.b., respectively. The drier construction cost is estimated at 352 OTN (National Treasury Note), 52.9 percent less than the tubular 6 x 6 m drier cost. If it is adapted under a barcaca (platform of sun drying) already built, its cost comes down to 264 OTN, 64.7 percent less than the tubular cost.
