Cocoa planting materials and propagation

Hybrids seeds are the cheapest and most easily grown planting material. Production from hybrid seeds is inconsistent and unpredictable. It costs more to produce a budded tree than a hybrid seedling. Budded trees needs continuous pruning and staking for at least 2 years. They grow less vigorously than hybrids, but have a higher and more uniform production. Of the various forms of vegetative propagation patch budding proves to be the best method. Farmers should think seriously about budding as an alternative to hybrids seeds.
