Estrutura fundiária e produtividade na regiao cacaueira da Bahia

This study analysed the land distribution in Cacao Region of Bahia, using the size of the farm and the area under cacao production. The relationship between farm size, area of cacao production and the cacao productivity was also analysed. Census of cacao farms of Bahia (16,780 farms) undertaken by Extension Department of CEPLAC in 1980 was utilized. Tabular analysis and Gini coefficient were utilized to measure the land concentration. To measure the relation between productivity and area, the test of Pearson correlation(r) was utilized. A strong negative correlation (-71) was observed between the farm size and the productivity; the correlation between area under cacao production and productivity (-0.47) was also significant. So, the proportional output of the small cacao farmers is higher than that of large farmers in production of cacao. These results contribute towards the critical study of socio-economic and cultural stereotypes of the different categories of rural farmers.
